"Doctor" Movie Review

"Doctor" written and directed by Nelson starring Siva Karthikeyan and Priyanka Mohan in lead roles has stormed the theatre a month ago and now made its way into the OTT streaming platforms (SunNXT and Netflix). The film has gathered a warm welcome among the people after the barren times of Kollywood Cinemas during COVID. This Diwali seemed little boring with two films being released and both bringing up disappointments to the fans. We haven't seen any good movie post covid. Will Doctor set things up?

The movie opens up with Varun(SK) as a DOCTOR in the army and at the same time portrays the break up between Dr. Varun and Padmini (Priyanka Mohan) who were engaged 6 months ago. The plot gradually gathers pace as Dr. Varun returns to his home in search of the reason for the breakup. It is during this time when Priyanka(Zaara Vineet) goes missing from school and their family goes in search of them. It is this time when Dr. Varun helps the family get to the nearby police station to file a missing case on the child. It is at this time when Dr. Varun gets to know that several girls are gone missing in the city and the police does nothing to find about it and it's high time for them to get into action to find the child.

The movie as usual in Nelson style has a lot of dark humor which acts as a USP for the film. The Cinematography went well mastering the camera angles, In most places, during the conversions, the camera was kept in the right places giving an overview of the conversation among the characters with respect to the location. Especially the island in goa was excellently presented on the screens making us a person to travel along with the story. All credits to Vijay Karthik for making the scenes pleasing to the eyes. Adding to the good cinematography the screenplay also went hand in hand to produce an excellent output. The script had no complex or confusing areas even though the script had some twists in the second half. I would rate Nelson for a full 100 for the excellent screenplay. The edits were really good. No matter how good the shots and scenes are, Without proper edit it would never be completed. The film didn't have any place of lag or misplaced scenes. All scenes were crafted with the flow making it easy to travel with. Felt some poor VFX in the climax. Ignoring that the other edits were awesome. Anirudh as usual showing his presence with some excellent music and bgm as usual. No comments it was indeed "Vera Maari, Vera Maari" . Coming to casts Priyanka Mohan looked like a doll in the movie, making her adorable during her presence, and yeah Dr. Varun presented as a strict doctor, the character was mastered by SK and the small detailing from his shirt collar to the seat belt in the car was well presented to give the initial feel of the character to the audience and must say it was really well conveyed. As the script takes pace all the characters made much more sense as compared to the starting. All characters especially SK has done a very different role compared to his other movies as stated by the director during an interview with Flim Companion South. It did take some time even for the audience to get used to the characters on screen as we are seeing them in new roles. But never disappointed all went well. Dr. Varun being the commander of the pack and the other supporting actors as his soldiers did a wonderful job bringing out the innocence of the script through their acting. Overall the movie seems good from start to end all were completed well. But it's not all good it does have some cons which do bring the movie down at times.

The movie is considered to be a comedy thriller but doesn't seem to be as such. The movie seems a little more elevated as a comedy film rather than a thriller. The characters for the most part doesn't seem like a child from their family who has gone missing. Sometimes they do cry making it emotional but most part the emotion isn't conveyed properly and yes if u expected a good thriller it's gonna be a disappointment. In the beginning, Archana (Mom)  feels as if a kind of overacting. She almost predicts that her child has been highjacked just by getting a phone call stating that her daughter has been missing. After the whole movie, the climax does bring upon disappointments where there are some logical errors. One kid is left alone on the island among all the kids without any reason for which Dr. Varun returns to save her. This just seems to be a scene to elevate the vibes on the movie or just a scene giving a treat to SK fans for no reason. Felt that the climax could have been made short.

Seeing this the expectation for BEAST has also elevated as Nelson also mentioned that he has made VIJAY DO A DIFFERENT KIND OF ROLE FROM NORMAL. But Vijay being termed as an actor of commercial films, we don't know whether the class of Nelson too will be spoiled or not just like it happened for Master.

Considering all these the movie can be put into a one-time watch category with some nice jokes courtesy of the combination of Yogi Babu and Redin Kingsly.
